How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by the total credits. Example: an A (4.0) in a 3-credit course plus a B+ (3.3) in a 4-credit course gives (12.0 + 13.2) รท 7 โ 3.60 GPA.
What is a good GPA?
On the 4.0 scale, 3.0 or higher is generally considered solid, and many scholarships, honor societies and graduate programs look for 3.5+. What counts as "good" depends on your school and your goals โ some competitive internships screen at 3.2โ3.5.
Does this calculator handle weighted AP/IB grades?
It uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale used by most US colleges. If your high school weights AP or IB courses above 4.0, this tool won't reflect that bonus โ enter your grades on the unweighted scale, or use your school's weighted point values if it reports them that way.
Do pass/fail courses count toward GPA?
Usually not. Pass/fail credits typically don't enter the GPA calculation (though they may still count toward graduation requirements), so leave them out of the courses above.
