🔐 Password Generator

Strong random passwords, generated on your device with cryptographic randomness. Nothing is transmitted or stored.

How to use the Password Generator

Set a length and choose which character sets to include, then generate a cryptographically random password.

How it works

Browser generators use crypto.getRandomValues(), a cryptographically secure source, rather than Math.random() whose output is seeded from the clock and therefore predictable. Length matters far more than complexity: doubling the length is exponentially harder to attack than adding another symbol class. A long passphrase of unrelated words is both stronger and easier to recall than a short scramble.

When to use it

Use it whenever you create an account, especially for your email and bank, which are the keys that reset everything else.

Worked example

Length versus crack time at 100 billion guesses per second:

LengthLowercase onlyFull character set
8 charactersminuteshours
12 characterscenturiesmillennia
16 charactersmillenniahundreds of millions of years
20 charactersmillions of yearslonger than the universe

Assumptions and limitations

Nothing typed here is stored or transmitted, so a lost password cannot be recovered. Combine generated passwords with a password manager and two-factor authentication. Some systems reject certain characters, so keep the symbol set conservative if the password is for a legacy system. Reuse is the real risk: a unique password per site matters more than complexity anywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes a password strong?

Length matters most — use 12+ characters, mix upper/lowercase, digits and symbols, and never reuse passwords across sites. This generator handles all of it.

Are these passwords safe to use?

Yes. They are generated locally in your browser with a cryptographic random source and are never sent over the network or stored anywhere.

How many combinations does a 16-character password have?

With all 95 printable characters: about 95^16 ≈ 10^31 combinations — effectively impossible to brute-force with current hardware.
